A few months ago, Bunch Magazine team asked me, as part of their design issue, to share a creative journey that was for me a great inspiration; and probably against all odds I thought of my last visit to Mumbai.

Out of my comfort zone, trying new things, confounding by the unknown…. It’s always in these moments that I find myself the most creative, inspired and captivated by a new world. I shared with them the behind the scenes of my meetings with creators and local artisans, as well as some travel tips. So to give you a little insight, I thought I would share with you a selection of my favorite places in Mumbai.

Your scented travel memories: Goa

“In our minds a certain type of smell is often connected with a specific memory. Usually people who travel to India say that it is the smell of spices that reminds them of the country. For me it is the smell of incense that tend to take my mind back to India.

A couple of years ago I went by myself to Goa for a one month Yoga Teacher Training. Every morning I was walking down to the shala, and as I got closer I could feel the smell of incense getting stronger. During our morning meditation the scent from the incense burning surrounded us all the way inside the tent. I remember wrapping a blanket around me, closing my eyes and let my mind drifting away.

On the Himalayan roads

Founder Kavita Khosa establish Purearth as a social enterprise, aiming to impact positive social change involving women in India.

She conducted in-depth research and spent a year exploring the Himalayas from Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh to Uttarakhand to meet with dozens of NGOs, CBOs and grassroots producer groups. Kavita’s focus is livelihoods and income generation programs.

She conducted field studies reviewing the ecology and economy; the availability of natural and human resources; backward integration capabilities and constraints before developing Purearth: a premium, wild harvested small batch skincare and wellness brand.

Meet with Kavita Khosa

Born in India and based in Hong Kong, Kavita Khosa is the founder and creative director of Purearth: a skincare and wellness brand that offers ancient Ayurvedic wisdom for a modern lifestyle. As a former lawyer, she has a strong passion for womens’ rights issues which led to the making of “Slave Brides”, an award winning television documentary on the exploitation of Indian women abroad.

Striving for a holistic lifestyle as a yoga teacher and Vedanta philosophy student, Kavita also established Sachananda Yoga Shala, a non profit yoga school in Hong Kong after obtaining her Diploma in Ayurveda in 2004.
